About the Medical Missionaries of Mary
MMM was founded in 1937. Our Foundress, an Irish woman called Marie Martin, was in Nigeria at the time she took her religious vows and became known as Mother Mary Martin. She died in 1975.
Mother Mary's dream from the beginning was that MMM would become an international Congregation of missionaries. Today MMM is composed of about 400 women who come from 16 different nationalities.
We live together, usually, in small multi-cultural religious communities of MMM Sisters. We try to show God's love through a dedicated service of healing among people in areas of great need.
As well as Sisters with life-long religious vows, there are about 60 Associate Members in 10 different countries. Associate Membership is open to men and women, single or married, who are drawn to the spirit and charism of MMM. They are associated through a spiritual Covenant, which is renewable annually.
The Extended Family of MMM also includes people who support us with their prayers through our Circle of Prayer or with some financial support from personal donations or through various fund-raising events which they organise from time to time. If you feel you would like to be involved in any way, please contact us.
The Motherhouse of MMM is in the historic town of Drogheda, on the east coast of Ireland. The administrative headquarters of MMM are located at our Congregational Centre in Dublin, where our Central Leadership reside when not visiting various missions.
