As in other countries of the northern hemisphere, our work in Ireland supports our work overseas.
Our Congregational Center is located at Rosemount, in Booterstown, Co. Dublin. This is the main administrative office and the place where the Sisters who make up our Central Leadership Team reside when not travelling abroad.
Our Communications Department can also be found in the same complex.
Our Motherhouse is located in the historic town of Drogheda, Co. Louth. It is home to four local communities, and a residence for missionaries who are seriously ill and in need of nursing care.
On retirement from overseas work, many Sisters return to our Motherhouse, or to one of eleven other small communities in Ireland. In Kilmacow, Co. Kilkenny, MMMs manage a very happy elder care facility established by an energetic parish committee.
Stories from MMM in Ireland
Another Kind of Energy by Sister Eilis Weber
Ireland, 2007: Our Motherhouse at Beechgrove, Drogheda, is home to more than ninety Sisters, the majority of whom are retired. Almost all have been on overseas mission during their active years. This house, for many decades gone by, reverberated with the life, enthusiasm and the joie de vivre of youth. Sisters went in haste, bringing healing to less fortunate people in under-developed areas of the world, returning home some years later, worn out after a hectic tour of duty. >>> more.
Marathon effort for Operating Room Lamp
Ireland / Uganda 2007: Sister Maura Lynch and friends were among 40,000 women who participated in the Dublin Women's Mini-Marathon to raise funds for charity. Between them they raised more than €1 million for hundreds of worthy causes. The immediate need for Sister Maura, who is Senior Surgeon at Kitovu Hospital, Uganda, is an Operating Room overhead lamp which has a battery back-up, badly needed because of the frequent power failures in the area. >>> more.
Rosedale: a Home from Home
Ireland, 2000: “It was a moving and sad occasion for the people of this parish as they turned out in great numbers to honour the departing nuns...”. So wrote Kathleen Laffan in her History of Kilmacow. She was referring to the concelebrated Mass, on June 25 1986, when the Presentation Sisters withdrew from the convent and school where they had served the parish since 1898.
