News and Events

In December 2019 ‘a virus that has not previously been seen in humans was identified in Wuhan, China. The first cases were identified in people working in a seafood and live animal market. It is thought that humans picked up the virus from animals at the market. In February 2020, the World Health Organization (WHO) officially named this new coronavirus ‘COVID-19’ (Website Government of Ireland: Department of Health).

How our lives have been turned upside down in a few short weeks! The situation changes daily and every country in the world has been affected. Impacted in a wide variety of ways, MMMs and MMM Associates are responding in whatever situations they find themselves.

Our MMM Constitutions tell us to ‘be present to the peoples of today. Share their joy and hope, their anguish and struggle.’ We especially draw strength from prayer at this time as we go where human need is greatest. ‘Let the whole world be taken up in the prayer of your heart, penetrated by it, healed and recreated in love.’ In the midst of fear and uncertainty, we remember the words of scripture: ‘Do not be afraid; I am with you’ (Is 41:10).
